Simplified Global Game Management: Introducing Game Servers

Developers are increasingly relying on dedicated servers to deliver the multiplayer gaming experience gamers are accustomed to. However, hosting and scaling the game server fleet to support an international game can be challenging and many game companies either end up building costly proprietary solutions or switching to pre-packaged options that limit the options for developers and their control. Agones, an open source game server hosting and scaling project based on Kubernetes and co-founded by Google Cloud and Ubisoft to provide a more simple solution. It is a community-driven alternative to proprietary solutions. Developers have the freedom to host and expand game servers across multiple environments, including multiple clouds, on premises , or locally. Alejandro Gonzalez, GM Jam City Bogota and shared his experience with Agones for the real time strategy mobile game World War Doh. Spiderman gaming Agones saved us precious time that would have been required to build an inhouse counterpart and in addition, made our system generic and able to run on top of multiple cloud providers. Today, we're announcing the launch of Game Servers beta, a managed service from Agones. Whereas Agones is ideal for managing regional game server clusters, Game Servers supercharges Agones to make it easier to manage multi-cluster gaming servers across the globe.
